Below is a list of courses that I have taken at Michigan State University in completion of the Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program.
Spring 2014
CEP 810: Teaching and Understanding with Technology
Instructor: Ben Rimes
This was my first class in the MAET program. In this course, I developed an educational blog. This course shaped my teaching philosophy in a huge way. In this course, we studied how experts learn and how to effectively use technology to achieve learning objectives. A big takeaway from this course was setting the foundation for the rest of the program in understanding the Technological, Pedagogical, And Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework of instruction.

CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
Instructors: Michelle Schira Hagerman (Ph.D.) & Sean Marie Sweeney
In CEP 811, I learned about innovation and creativity in teaching 21st century skills. In the course, I had to purchase a "Makers kit" and utilize it in multiple assignments. This course pushed me to think differently about educational technology. I used multiple technology tools (Maker Kits, SketchUp, Tinker Cad, Evernote, Zoom, Google Hangout, Mozilla Hello, Piktochart) to discover and demonstrate course objectives. I learned more about TPACK and what it means to repurpose the tools around me to creatively find new ways of designing learning experiences.

CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Instructors: Andrew Steinman & Michelle Schira Hagerman (Ph.D.)
In CEP 812, I learned about "wicked problems" in education and solving them by collaborating with an expanding Professional Learning Network (PLN). In a group of four, my peers and I collaborated our thoughts, issues, concerns, and solutions to “Rethink Teaching” in the 21st century. Our Wicked Problem was finding a way to limit direct instructional time to allow for more focus on student-centered learning. We used our personal teaching experiences, influences of James Paul Gee’s book The Anti-Education Era, and research based studies on blended learning effectiveness to form our solution to the Wicked Problem. The course taught me how to use technology to engage students' passions and peak their curiosity for discovery learning.

CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: Aman Yadav (Ph.D.) & Dashika D. Cosby
In CEP 815, I learned about different leadership styles and how to create effective changes in organizations. This course focused on how to engage the organization and seamlessly manage the complexities of technology, teaching, and learning. We studied the differences between excellent managers and transformational leaders and the characteristics that both possess. The course included a personal vision statement for the future of education and educational technology.

TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructor: Katie Cook
This course was taken to better understand literacy learners and how to approach reading comprehension as well as written assessments. In the course, I studied ways of accommodating content, creating better assessments, and structuring instruction planning more effectively to reach all students. The course included a personal case study project where I worked one-on-one with a struggling student to teach reading strategies and methods for improving comprehension. This Literacy Learner Analysis Case Study included a pre-test, two lessons, and a post-test which I analyzed the students strengths and weaknesses and adjusted my lessons according to meeting the individual student's needs. This course was used to fulfill the State of Michigan literacy course requirement.

CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructors: Cary Roseth (Ph.D.) & Cui Cheng
In CEP 800, I investigated multiple psychological perspectives and theories of learning. The course examined ways individuals learn, process information, and retrieve information. The course separated the concepts of teaching and learning. Throughout the semester, we looked at how behavior and habits are formed and how this influences the learning process. In the final project, I created a personal theory of learning that had been influenced by research and psychological perspectives studied during the course.

CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Instructors: E. David Wong (Ph.D.) & Cui Cheng
CEP 822 focused on analyzing and producing credible educational research and statistics. The course included several research activities and one project investigating an educational question in my personal area of study. Understanding how to gather information, methods of analyzing data, and how to interrogate existing data were crucial skills I learned during this course. I completed my personal research by conducting surveys and critically examining academic journals relating to my topic.

CEP 807: Proseminar in Educational Technology
Instructors: Matthew Koehler (Ph.D.), Brittany Dillman, Aric Gaunt, & Sarah Keenan
In the final course of my MAET program, CEP 807, I developed this comprehensive portfolio to showcase the skills I obtained throughout the program and demonstrate mastery in the use of technology to support teaching and learning. Throughout several weeks of creating webpages, reviewing the work of peers, and receiving feedback from instructors and colleagues I have created this website. This portfolio displays my educational and work experiences. Upon viewing this portfolio, visitors will get an understanding of who I am as an educator and how my experiences have influenced my philosophy.
